CYCLE: I, II, III
ACTIVITY LEVEL: High
QEP: Competency II: opposition, using available space
TACTICS: Use of open space, avoiding others
OBJECTIVE
To avoid being touched by The Virus.
EQUIPMENT
Open space, cones to set the boundaries (4 corners of the basketball court), pinnies
DIRECTIONS
- Select 1-3 players to be The Virus, and their role will be to tag others and they will wear pinnies.
- All other players must avoid being tagged by The Virus, but if they are they must hold where they’ve been tagged for the remainder of their time in the game. Ex: if tagged on the arm, they will hold it as if it’s been infected. If tagged again on the knee they will hold that with their other hand. If tagged a third time they must go to The Hospital (anywhere out of the boundary lines).
- At The Hospital players must do 6 jumping jacks before returning to the game freshly healed.
- Make sure to change taggers after a 3-minute game
MODIFICATIONS
- When players go to The Hospital have them do a specific task that you’ve been working on in previous classes (dribble a basketball 4 times, throw and catch a ball against the wall 5 times, etc.)
- Instead of jumping jacks have the students choose an activity prior to starting the game (5 push-ups, crabwalk once around the play area, etc.)
- Instead of having a certain number of taggers, play with everyone being it.
SAFETY CUES
- Tag appropriately
- Keep head up
