Porky Piglet's Games for Elementary Physical Education
TYPE:                        Net & Wall
CYCLE:                     III
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Moderate

TACTICS:                 teamwork
QEP:                        Competency II: cooperation, communication, passing to teammates

OBJECTIVE
To make a complete change between players on each side with as few drops of the ball as possible.

EQUIPMENT
volleyball and net, pinnies

DIRECTIONS
- Split the class in two equal teams on either side of the volleyball court, and give them each a different coloured pinnie to wear (match-ups are not necessary).

First layer: have players only catch and throw the ball over the net
Second layer: introduce bumping/volleying but still allow them to catch if they feel more comfortable
Third layer: no catching, only bump/volley the ball

- Once a player has thrown/hit the ball over the net they must then go to that side and stay there
- Each time the ball hits the floor or goes out of bounds (the play area is a regular volleyball court) a point goes against the group and they must start over.
- Players can pass the ball up to three times on each side of the net before having to hit it over. Although only the player to actually hit it over gets to change sides. Once a player has changed sides they can only pass to teammates (because if they hit it over they would have to go back to their original side, which would defeat the purpose of the game).
- Observe what tactics the students use. Do they realise that in order for this game to reach the objective both “teams” must work together as one?

MODIFICATIONS
- Play with badminton courts/nets instead and have several mini-games at once
- Use a different size/weight ball: Omnikin, tennis, beach ball, etc.

SAFETY CUES
- Don’t cross from under the net, exit court from the side and run around the post to the other side
